Common questions
How do I start the countdown?
Create a trip using your nationality, entry port, planned entry time and onward-ticket information. Once you have completed entry inspection, confirm your actual entry time from the Home screen. Saving a plan alone does not mean you have entered China.
The countdown is an estimate based on the information you enter. Always follow the permission and departure deadline given by border inspection authorities.
Do I need to change my phone’s time zone?
No. Enter entry and itinerary dates using Beijing time (UTC+8), as shown in the app. Stopover uses that time zone for the stay calculation, even if your phone is set to another time zone.
Do I need an account? How does iCloud sync work?
Stopover has no separate sign-in. Trips are stored on your device and can sync through your private iCloud storage when iCloud is available. Use the same Apple Account on your devices and allow Stopover to use iCloud in system settings.
If a change has not appeared on another device, open Stopover on both devices, check the network and iCloud settings, and allow time for sync. A visible local trip or an available iCloud account does not by itself confirm that a change has finished syncing.
Why is there no Live Activity or Dynamic Island countdown?
Live Activities are reserved for the final hours of a confirmed stay. With 6 hours or less remaining, open Stopover so it can attempt to start the activity. You can also start it manually from Departure reminders when 8 hours or less remain.
With more than 8 hours remaining, use a widget instead. The app cannot start a new activity at the six-hour point while it remains closed. Make sure Live Activities are allowed in iOS settings. Dynamic Island display also requires a compatible iPhone; a supported device can show the activity on the Lock Screen.
How do I add a departure widget?
Open Stopover and confirm entry for your active trip. Then touch and hold your Home Screen, choose the option to add a widget, search for Stopover, and select the departure countdown. Small and medium Home Screen widgets are available.
For a Lock Screen widget, customize your Lock Screen and choose Stopover in the widget area. If a widget looks out of date, reopen the app to refresh the trip snapshot. iOS controls widget update timing.
Why did I not receive a departure reminder?
Confirm entry first, then open Departure reminders and allow notifications. The displayed list is the planned schedule; it does not prove that notifications are enabled or were delivered.
Check Stopover’s notification permissions, Focus settings and sound settings in iOS. Only reminder times that are still in the future can be scheduled. Once scheduled, local reminders do not require an internet connection.
Which decimal separator should I use for amounts?
Use your device’s region format, not the language selected inside Stopover. For example, a US region uses 1234.56; a German or French region uses 1234,56. If an entry is not valid, follow the example displayed below the amount field.
Currency conversions use reference rates and may differ from your bank’s rate or fees. Tax-refund results are estimates; the applicable rate, eligibility and handling fees affect the amount you receive.
Does “End this trip” delete my data?
No. It stops the trip’s countdown and reminders and lets you plan another stay. The saved trip record remains on the device and may remain in iCloud.
Deleting the app does not guarantee deletion of its iCloud data. See data storage and deletion or contact support for guidance.
